well the week started a little slow with a big skunk at the harbor and Roger catching 3 fish. i was a little concerned that i was not going to meet quota. Lorraine and I are visiting the Burtons in Lake Havasu and I was able to do a little fishing today. First fish was a Large mouth Bass using a drop shot. Gerry and I shifted gears and went with a #2 treble hook to catch some of the 2 pound crappie they were reportedly pulling out of the lake. Gerry had me beat in fish size but I ended up catching a 5 pound catfish. It was a very productive day on the lake with over 20 fish and a lot of time relaxing.

Breakwall Adventure #1
I'm labeling this trip #1 because it was so much fun that with the loving permission from our beautiful and stunning wives, we are hoping to make many more runs to the breakwall. So we got to label them in order to keep them in perspective.

All that aside this was the first official voyage on the Recovery Room. It has taken many months and many man man hours to get her ocean ready. Aaron has put in a ton of work and I have helped him hold a lot of tools so he could work in order to get her running. Even though she took a little TLC to get her warmed up it wasn't long before she was purring and we were off to our destination.
Now to say the road to the breakwall was a little rough is like saying the Mike Tyson is a "little" crazy. I felt like Gilligan and I was just hoping that we could get tot the breakwall and out of the way of the wind and the waves. Once there the water was calmer but the wind was nuts. We figured out the trolling motor situation and soon enough we were fishing and enjoying the night.
Now I must say that the first fish of the night could not have come to a more deserving individual. After all the work Aaron has put into the boat and all the dreams he has had of getting a fish on it, aaron would be the first to hook up. Best of all he landed it! I'll let the video do the rest:
The rest of the night was a ton of fun. Enough fish to keep us busy. Aaron and Juan were the first to hook up with Aaron taking a commanding lead early in the trip. The first count went Aaron 3, Juan 2, and Me a lonesome 1. The first few catches were on a swimbaits tipped with squid or jigs and a creature bait trailer. Later in the night I made my move with a flurry of catches that briefly put me in the lead. 4 fish in about a 15 cast span and a quick trip to the back of the boat to man the trolling motor opened up the door for Aaron. See the thing is is that we have a trolling motor that is a tad old. An antique by most standards. It does the job but it take a bit getting used to to get the boat going where we wanted it to. So whoever manned the motor tended to catch less fish. So when one person started catching, the usually ended up navigating. Only fair way to do it and made for a funny kind of game of "Oh crap caught a fish, means I gotta control the boat now?!?!?" Best catch of the night though went like this. Roger: "Got one!" Aaron: "I'm all tangled, this braid and your fish have it looped around my pole." Roger: "Dude you have a fish on!" (I set the hook with my hands while untangling Aaron): Aaron "Hook Up! Fish on!"
All in all is was a great night! Ended up with 18 fish total, a fun mix of Calico and Sand Bass. Nothing gigantic but still tons of fun. Most fish came later in the evening on Jigs with squid. Ended the night at Midnight, wishing for quick return to the wall in the future. Heres a few more pics of the night. Sorry Juan I don'tt have your pics. If you send them my way I would love to put them up.
Count for the Night:
Aaron 8
Roger 7
Juan 3
All a mix of Calico and Sand Bass.

Newport Newport oh Lovely Newport
Great Walk tough fishing. That pretty much sums up the day. After a mix up yesterday we were able to fix things this time and head out to one of our favs. the tide was stupid low and looked like it might be a tough day of catching and a long day of fishing. But what do you know, 2nd cast in and I'm on a fish. I have to give Aaron credit for the fish though and all those caught today. He tried a craw tail the other day and it was ridiculous and quickly he was getting hit on it. I had a few little creature baits so thought why not and what do you know "FISH ON"! Thanks Aaron!!!!!!

This was not a sign of things to come though. We did more walking and casting than stopping to real in fish. A few broke off, thanks to light line fishing, but not much aside from that. I got one more on our walk back but that would be it. Both fish were not that big but these guys have attitude and fight like crazy. Best pound for pounder by far.

Aaron, well how do I put this. . . walked and casted tons. But no luck today. Walked away with one of these :

Mix Up and Fishing
So I quickly learned today that the text message is way overrated when it comes to making fishing plans. Aaron and I planned a Newport Harbor trip unfortunately we read out text messages totally different. Crap!! I'm up early and Aaron is thinking we go on Thursday. What to do, what to do. I know, go fishing still!!! Sorry Aaron, it was hard telling you on the phone that "I'm going on a 1/2 day boat, have a good day at work." Its like telling a little kid they cancelled Christmas. I'll make it up to you buddy, don't worry.
Out on the boat I go for a fun day and some fishies. Ended up bringing home enough fish for fish tacos one night and some catfish bait later. Got a chance to catch a fish on each of the three weapons of choice today, Torium/Shooting Star, Calcutta/Rick Clunn, and the star of the day would be the Saltist/Seeker. It was a fun day that would have only been better with Aaron catching a few too.
Todays count:
7 Calicos (3 Legal)
2 Cuda (1 Legal)
Many cudas lost but the fight was fun =).
Till the next trip!!! (Won't be long, we're going again tomorrow)

Newport Adventures
Hit up Newport Harbor this morning. It was Aaron's first trip on trip on foot after many trips on the tube. Started off on one side and what was going to be a brief stroll and trip home turned into a long walk all the way around the island. The walking definitely paid off though. 4 fish each with Aaron catching the bigger models. At one point I missed about 10 hits and was about ready to give up this whole fishing thing. Alright maybe not that bad, but I was a tad frustrated to say the least. So I switch to a smaller bait which paid off in two catches, both fish going a whopping six inches apiece. Oh well a fish is a fish.
Was a great day but the scalp is a little toasty and I got a sweet farmers tan on the neck.
Count for the day (3 hours)
8 Spotties
